We have driver's licenses that are recognized across state lines, so why not concealed carry licenses?
Instead of trying to figure out which states recognize your permit every time you travel, what about one national license that's valid in all 50 states?
I'm not necessarily talking about replacing state permits. It could be an optional federal license for people who want nationwide coverage.
Of course, then you get into who issues it, what the requirements are, and whether we really want the federal government involved in carry permits in the first place.
Personally, I'd rather not have to check a reciprocity map every time I cross a state line.
I already deal with this with my CDL. The state issues my CDL, but the standards are governed federally through DOT/FMCSA. Even my medical certification is based on federal FMCSA requirements and has to be completed by a certified medical examiner. Yet I don't need a new CDL or medical certification every time I cross a state line. Why couldn't concealed carry work under a similar system?
