Every Accuracy International Arctic Warfare rifle owes its name to Sweden. When the Swedish Army wanted a sniper rifle that would keep working in brutal cold, AI upgraded its L96 design, and the result entered service in 1991 as the PSG 90. Like a boxy Volvo 240, it simply refused to quit. Until now. Enter PSG-23.

Its successor, first seen on TFB last year, has now debuted at this year's sniper course. The PSG-23 (short for Prickskyttegevär, or sniper rifle) is a Sako TRG M10 in 8.6x70 mm Lapua Magnum and 7.62x51 mm NATO, topped with a Hensoldt ZF 3.5-26x56 chosen for its compact 370 mm length.

That frees up rail space for night devices up front without making the rifle nose-heavy. The scope rides in a Swedish-made Spuhr SP-6002 mount, with an A-0230 “dive board” interface on top for the laser.

Now you know what happens when a Sako, a Hensoldt and a Spuhr walk together into sniper school.

Add image intensifiers, thermal sights, a rangefinder, wind meter and ballistic calculator, and you have a full kit built for first-round hits at extreme range, day or night. Which leaves one question for today's TFB Photo of the Day: whose clip-on gets the spot in front of that Hensoldt?
