SIG P385 Magazine Compatibility – Yes, It Uses P320 Magazines

One of the better decisions SIG made with the new P385 was not introducing another completely different magazine.

According to SIG, the P385 uses P320 magazines.

There is one catch. Older P320 magazines with the original rounded basepad require the P385's metal magwell to be removed. So "P320 compatible" doesn't necessarily mean every old P320 magazine will fit every P385 configuration exactly as it sits.

The P385 Carry uses a flush-fitting 17-round magazine, and SIG also packages 21-round magazines with some configurations.

Most of the rest of the pistol is a new platform. The P385 has its own FCU, grip system, slide and other major components. SIG specifically says P320 magazines, the P320 AXG magwell and P-Series dovetailed iron sights are among the limited existing parts that carry over.

That's actually a pretty significant advantage for somebody who already owns a P320 and has a pile of magazines sitting around.

I spent some money having a well-regarded Sig armorer check over my P320 before starting to carry it again. The part dimensions, and how they work together, indicate that this particular gun will NOT fire when it shouldn't.

As luck would have it I went through that trouble right before Sig announced the P385.

So for now I'll stick with what I got.

I haven't brushed up lately on the Sig issue, has the company done anything in reference to it?

Personally, if I had the spare funds, I would certainly purchase something else and shelve the Sig until there was a proper fix for it.

So far, Sig has insisted the problems are user-induced, not a mechanical failure. Statements and video from law enforcement agencies, gun smiths, shooting sport competitions, and training schools say differently.

Ok, then yes, I am up to speed then.

I wonder how much in sales they have lost because of this debacle? How many customers? Quite certain they have a large base with law enforcement agencies, or did.

I've seen prices plunge on used 320's at the couple of local stores I stop at. And slight markdowns on the new ones still coming through the pipeline.

The factory magazines are still at full boat retail, which makes me chuckle.

Well, the magazines aren't the problem. LOL.
